Four steps to successful web content for building contractors
Last Updated on February 17, 2024 by Daniel Stenabaugh
If you already have a website, or just beginning to think its time to have an online presence, then these four steps will get you moving in the right direction. You may be thinking you need to have hundreds and hundreds of clicks to your site in order to grow your business, but generally that is not the case. The quality of your audience is far more important that sheer volume.
In this article well take a look at the four most important steps to take consider when building an effective web presence.
1. Primary purpose of website design
Always keep in mind that your website is you online store front. And the content on your site is your online sales force. Your target audience needs to feel welcome and supported when they walk in the door.
When working on your website you need to decide what it is you want your audience to do, when they get there… have access to useful articles about your industry, or sign up for a free subscription to your company newsletter. You may want them to contact you for a quote, or ask for more information. Whatever your purpose is it must be clear to your audience or you run the risk of having them get confused about why they are there and end up wandering aimlessly from page to page. Without a clear purpose, your visitor will end up moving on to the next company on the list of search results.
So be sure you have a clear idea of what it is you want your visitors to do.
2. Describe your ideal website visitor
Along with purpose goes the idea of knowing your ideal customer. A person comes to your website with a purpose. They want to know something, or do something. Some people come to buy because they need what you have to offer right away. That have come to your online store because they have a “pain” that needs to be alleviated or some interest in the product or services you provide.
Not every customer is right for your company and by having a clear idea of your ideal audience you can be ready, willing, and able to give them what they want, when they want it.
3. Who are your major competitors
Equally important as knowing your ideal customer is knowing our competition. Today’s online shopper has hundreds of opportunities to find the services they want and needs. How does your website stack up against your competitors? Is their content more focused than yours? Does it try to reach the same people you want to do business with? How can you differentiate yourself from them? There is probably some way you can stand out that is materially different from them.
4. What is your unique selling proposition
This brings us to the fourth and very important step in website design.
Whether you realize it or not your company has a unique selling proposition that is different from every other company out there. You may focus on a specific segment of the plumbing market for instance. Or maybe you specialize in small drywall repairs that result from water damage. You’d be surprised how targeted some niches can be.
The point is that your company has a unique way of doing your work and with a little but of brainstorming you can find the right message that will resonate with your target market. Be sure to answer the unique question someone might ask. Does your service offer business success, relief from worry, comfort, peace of mind? This is what is really important to your customer. Ultimately it is the benefits of what you do that they seek.
Conclusion
When potential customers come to your online store they have a problem that needs a solution, or a question that needs to be answered. In the world of online marketing you are much more likely to satisfy your customers needs by targeting your message to an ideal customer and keep clear of being too general. Think about the purpose of you website, your competition, and the ultimate benefit you bring to your market. When you do this your online sales team can stand ready to help the very customers you want to do business with and who will want to do business with you.
